HYDRA (2022)

HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA HYDRA

The private sphere - the online person - and the gaps in between.

In the depths of Lake Lerna, the Hydra reigned supreme, guarding the gates of the Underworld. A multi-headed water serpant with posinous breath, capable of regenerating with every severed head.

The design of the performance

Spanning 30 captivating minutes the performance starts outdoors, where the audience stands in front of a glas wall, met by a relection of themselves. Two guides splashes water on the glass wall. A black curtain unveils a room turqiouse lit, reminding an aquatic tank. The dancer strikes statuesque poses, silently observing the audience. Who is the observer, and who the observed?

With a nod to collaboration, the audience are encouraged to capture digital moments through their smartphones, becoming both documentarians and co-creators of the unfolding narrative, sparking conversations on agency and perspective.

The journey is about to begin. As the curtain shuts, the audience is invited inside into the performative space, as stepping in behind the scenes.

The dancer glides in slow motion amid the groans of blue whales. The rhytm culminates into a mesmerizing crescendo as if time itself seemed to bend.

Out of a twirl emerges a fanastical figure: the digital pop star creature HYDRA itself. Emboldened by its own exhibitionistic taste and seductive aesthetics it now needs to smell existence, feeding on the energy of collective gaze and presence.

Let the dance begin.

About the choreopgrahic and artistic process

“ - This piece intertwines my fascination, allure and utter stress for social media platforms (hello tik-tok and youtube shorts) and my own somatic introspection.

During my two year long residency at SITE in Farsta, I developed a somatic movement exploration I namned pain practice.

In this practice I listen to the bodies immidiate needs. Through active breathing, movement awareness and vocal resonans I unlock tension (physical, mental and all of the above) and give space for healing and rest.

The resonans of this practice vibrates into muscles, warming and nurturing the inside of the body. Pain practice transcends the physical, offering pathways to metaphysical exploration, inviting one into flow-state.

Drawing from Hydra as a mythical beast, I embody this monstrous, mesmerizing being as I imagine it sluggish & slippery, EXPLOSIVE 💦🐉💥 Slow motion and moving through resistance has always been a favourite of mine.”
